supporting interconnectedness

Ecosomatic Counselling

Let’s slow down, slow enough to forget time…transcending words, roles, and abstract concepts.

Sensing our oneness with all life as we:

…breathe together, the same
air that blows gently through the trees
…flow together, our soft bodies of
water rich with ocean currents
…rest and regenerate together, the same iron, salt, and calcium within us as the
earth
…allow warmth together, building and creating something new from the
fire within.

slowing down to connect deeply

relaxing the inner ecosystem supports balance with the larger ecosystem

This work is deeply relational, ecological, creative, and experimental. Traditional talk therapy locates the “problem” within the individual—assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental illness without acknowledging the systems of oppression which create it. Together we can reject this framing and instead connect to collective ways of understanding. We weren’t meant to do this alone, and we are never truly alone because everything is connected. The work becomes a process of attuning to our interconnectedness. As the world gets more complex and unstable, the need to expand our capacity, deepen our relations, and be with high levels of intensity increases. Our sessions are a practice space designed to support you to grow into deeper connection with yourself, the living world, and relationships around you.

Each session is a collaborative space and we begin with a simple question: What’s alive for you right now? It might be a physical sensation, a recent interaction with a friend, an emotion, an image, thoughts…we slow down and tune into what wants to unfold in the moment. My main ways of working include:

💚 Deeply attuned listening & authentic relating

I bring my whole self so you connect with a real human being, not a blank slate or “expert”. You are the expert of you and I’ll be in the questions alongside you. I offer my full presence, realness, creativity, and heart-centered warmth, to create a space where you can share your whole self too. No topic, idea, words, or experience is off limits—you can bring the darkest of shadows, shame, and things you may have never allowed yourself to feel or say. All of you is honored and welcome here. I truly believe peacemaking starts with us—can we be with all of our contradictions, complexities, and messy bits? Can we extend that to others too? The more we allow space for everything to be seen, the more capacity we have to be with others in their own messiness.

Some related modalities I draw on: Gestalt therapy, Authentic relating, Nonviolent communication, Active listening, Existential therapy, Feminist therapy

🌿 Ecosomatic awareness

Traditional somatic work focuses on the individual’s body and nervous system, but this gives us an incomplete picture when everything and everyone is connected. Ecosomatics brings in collective awareness and supports connecting to our inner and outer ecosystems. When we can recognize that the same water, earth, fire, and air that surrounds us also flows through and makes up our own bodies, we are beginning to grasp the web of relations to which we belong. This is nothing new. It’s something our ancestors have always known and that indigenous peoples have know for thousands of years. The loss of connection to the land and rapid growth of modernity has left us disoriented, feeling alone, and with individualistic understanding of the world. Through this work we reclaim the lost connection and reclaiming belonging.

Some related modalities I draw on: Somatic therapy (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy), Ecospirituality, Nature therapy, Transpersonal psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, mindfulness, Parts work within an ecological, collectivist framing

✨ Creative Exploration

Our work can be delightfully playful, creative, and experimental. Exploring through art, play, creative experiments, role playing, games, movement, sound healing, writing, reading, nature walks, and other creative projects can lead to new insights and ways of thinking and experiencing.

Some related modalities I draw on: Art therapy, Play therapy, sound healing, journaling.

Session Offerings

Ongoing Sessions

If after three sessions, you would like to continue, we can discuss a rate that works for both of us. I work on a sliding scale (see FAQ below) that ranges from €80 - 250 depending on the duration of the session (50 or 90 minutes), whether I’m working with an individual or couple, and depending on the frequency of meeting (weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc.). If we both want to work together but those rates are out of your budget, we will discuss a rate that works for both of us and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Custom Retreats

Ideal for those who want a more expansive container or who are coming from out of town. We’ll meet and talk about what your goals are during a free intro session, and come up with a plan that will support you in exploring into a topic or theme with plenty of spaciousness. For additional support and offerings, I often collaborate with my partner Kirien. Offered in person in Utrecht, NL or online. Sliding scale rates to be discussed during free intro session.

FAQs

  • Free intro sessions and weekly sessions are offered online to folks anywhere in the world via Google Meet. I am located in Utrecht, NL and am in Central European Time. If you are interested in a longer session, 2 on 1 session (with Kirien and I) or customized retreat, there is the option to meet in person in Utrecht, NL (a short 10 min walk from the station). I can also do weekly individual sessions outside as walking sessions (meeting point at Mariaplaats & Rijnkade in Utrecht). For custom retreats we have the option to work in tandem with Kirien (my partner).

  • In the post-capitalist world I dream of, connection and healing would be something given freely, in community, and in reciprocity with all beings. Unfortunately we aren’t quite there yet, so the best I can offer is a level of transparency and honesty about how I relate to money, and invite you to do the same. My partner Kirien and I are committed to modest living, being in right relationship to the land and community, and service to others—meaning we live minimally and do not accumulate excess financial resources or monetary investments. We are privileged enough to earn enough of an income to cover our basic needs, but we do still have bills to pay. We both use a sliding scale that is negotiated with each person we work with, based on trust, reciprocity, and care. If you are a higher income earner or more financially resourced, we ask you to pay on the higher end of the scale. This makes it possible for us to serve those who need services at the lower end of the scale.

  • No, this is not therapy. While my background includes experience in mental health care, the work I offer through Reclaiming Belonging is not clinical or diagnostic in nature. The title “counsellor” means many different things to different people depending on the cultural and regional context. In the country I live in, the Netherlands, the title of “counsellor” is not a regulated title and is meant to refer to “…the process of guiding emotional, psychosocial, and psychosomatic problems to enhance well-being (Nederlandse Academie Voor Psychotherpie)”. Sessions with me are not intended to diagnose, assess, or treat mental health conditions, and are not a fit for those currently in crisis. Instead, I offer warm, collaborative support that’s present-centered, practical, and grounded in mindfulness, somatics, and deep listening.

  • Yes! I have a wide range of personal and professional experience working with a vast array of different intersecting cultural identities and expressions. I have worked with people of all different racial and ethnic backgrounds, religions, ages/generations, socioeconomic statuses, disabilities, neurotypes, sexualities, gender identities, relationship orientations, national origins, and political views. I’m someone who is comfortable holding lots of space for nuance, complexity, and polarity. Everything and everyone is welcome.

I have extensive experience working with the following communities/cultural contexts:

    -LGBTQIA+

    -Polyamorous, non-monogamous, open relationships

    -Kink and BDSM

    -Sex workers

    -Neurodivergence

    -Chronic illness and disability

-1st and 2nd gen immigrants, third culture kids, expats, internationals

    -Multiple intersecting marginalized identities

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action—and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly—to keep the channel open.
