Learn Reiki 1

Curious about learning Reiki?

Anyone can learn Reiki. It does not require any prior experience with energy work & healing, nor an existing sense of being an energetically sensitive individual. It is compatible with any religious faith or lack of faith. Reiki practice shares many elements with other practices under the large umbrellas of “meditation” and “mindfulness”, so it is great — but not necessary — if you already have a regular practice in something meditative.

After receiving a Reiki attunement on a course, you can immediately begin practising giving treatments to yourself and others. The connection with Reiki — and the ability to channel it through your hands — is one you will have for the rest of your life.

Kirien offers training in Reiki level 1 — in-person or online, privately or in a group class.

You can read more about Kirien’s experience as a Reiki Master here.

Level 1 course outline

Reiki 1 is taught over 2 full days, or 4 half-days, and contains a balance of theoretical content & discussion as well as time for practical exercises.

We will explore the following:

  • What is Reiki? How does it work? What does it mean to be a Reiki practitioner?

  • History & development of Reiki in Japan & the West, differences between “Japanese” and “Western” Reiki

  • The 5 Reiki Principles — in Japanese & English translations

  • Energetic anatomy frameworks & practices — chakras, auras, tandens, meridians

  • Intuitive development & caring for your energy body

  • Level 1 attunements

  • Techniques for connecting & disconnecting from Reiki

  • Self-Reiki practice — full self-treatment & additional techniques

  • Giving a full Reiki treatment to another person

  • Giving Reiki to plants, animals, other non-human beings

  • The way forward — 21 days self-treatment practice, further Reiki levels, integrating Reiki into daily life

At the end of the course you will receive a manual, a Level 1 certificate, and an embodied connection to Reiki for life. 🌟

Ways to learn

  • Join a group class

I hold an in-person weekend (Sat + Sun) class in Utrecht approximately once per month. Upcoming dates and registration options are typically announced on Hipsy. It is also possible to join an in-person class as a remote participant.

The cost for this is 200€ / 150€ if joining remotely.

  • Private training: 1-1 or with a friend / partner

If you prefer to learn 1-1, we can do so over the course of 2 days (or 4 half-days), according to a schedule that works for you. They do not need to be consecutive days. You can also sign up together with a friend or partner, and practice your new skills with each other already during the class.

The cost for in-person private training is 300€ (350€ for 2 people). 250€/200€ if online.

  • [Coming soon] Self-paced online curriculum + 1-1 sessions

I am currently working on a self-paced online course to support more diverse learning styles and access needs. It will be a mix of video content (theory & demonstrations), assignments to submit and get detailed feedback on, and two 1-1 sessions to receive the attunements and any additional personalised support as needed.

The cost for this will be 100€.

Questions

  • Not at this time — feel free to check back again at a later date!

If you are looking to take level 2+ with an openly Queer & BIPOC Reiki Master, I can wholeheartedly recommend my master Mariana Luna.

  • Although we will discuss (and have a chance to practice) giving full Reiki treatments to another person, professionalisation isn’t something we explicitly cover in level 1. Having a level 2 or Master attunement isn’t necessary to share Reiki with others professionally — however, extensive personal experience with the practice itself is highly recommended.

If you are interested in becoming a professional practitioner after taking a level 1 course with me — start by practicing a lot — on yourself, on family & friends, on plants & animals, practice integrating the principles and frequency of Reiki into your daily life and embodiment. Allow Reiki to become your spiritual guide & teacher — and together you will find the next step forward on your sacred path.

  • In my own Reiki journey, I have taken courses 1-1 and in groups, in-person and online (including being the only “online” participant in an otherwise in-person group). I see pros & cons to each method, which suits different needs and learning styles.

One main benefit of joining a group class is the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others — to already see, in real-time, that each person embodies this practice slightly differently, and there is no right or wrong way to do so. Your way does not need to be like my (“the teacher’s” way). How I explain a concept may not resonate with you — but another participant’s reframing in their own words, might.

On the other hand, a private class allows for focused attention on exactly where you’re at in your overall life journey, and how this practice can become a part of it. There is more time and space for you to share, as well as flexibility to adapt the curriculum structure to your needs.

In a private couples / duo training, you will be practicing most of your new skills on each other, and having an opportunity to share about it afterwards. If desired, we may also spend some time exploring how the practice can support the well-being of your relationship with one another.

  • My personal experience having been on the receiving end of both types is no. I have had in-person attunements that felt “pointless” as well as an online attunement that completely blew me away.

A big part of my mission — beyond but also including within my Reiki practice — is to co-create & demonstrate examples of how digital technology can facilitate deeply grounded and embodied personal & collective healing. The space I give in my practice to online & hybrid offerings is very purposeful. I believe that doing this work online brings something which is unique to and not comparable with in-person experiences.

I am aware of many in the larger community that look down upon attunements and courses taken online. I might elaborate my position on this in a blog post later. For now, I can summarise it so: being able to access (travel to, pay for, follow along in) an in-person class pre-requisites many layers of privilege in one’s personal situation. I am here to serve people who struggle with “not belonging” — in this work, accessibility is a central principle — it is not possible to make a blanket statement that one way of learning or doing something is “better” than another. The only thing that matters is what works best for your personal needs and situation.

  • At the moment I don’t do this with courses.

A large part of my intention with developing a self-paced online course is so that these teachings can be sustainably offered at a more affordable price point. I am able to do so with that format because of not needing to block off 3-6 hours consecutively on my calendar. I intend to design it in such a way that participants will get just as much personalised support as in a “regular” course — just spread out over time in a flexible pace.
